Fashion Targets Breast Cancer

Every October, pink pretty much over takes any hue, as it represents Breast Cancer Awareness. Hundreds of brands feature campaigns that show how with research and education, we can work to eradicate this horrendous disease that claims the lives of thousands of men and women each year.

According to, one in eight women in the United States will develop invasive breast cancer in the course of her lifetime. Additionally, nearly 41,000 women in the U.S. are expected to die from the disease alone. Though rates are on the decline, there are still many who are deeply affected by this form of cancer,  as it is the number two most dangerous cancer amongst women.

I am delighted to announce that this year, I am proudly participating in the CFDA’s Fashion Targets Breast Cancer Campaign in partnership with ShopStyle. From October 17 to October 23, 10 percent of my ShopStyle affiliate sales will go to FTBC. In addition to my donations,  POPSUGAR which is the parent company ShopStyle, will be making a $5,000 donation to FTBC. Below are some of my favorite products and designers that are on a mission to end the cancer battle.

Cancer hit my family hard.

I lost my mother to this disease back when I was about to graduate from high school. My mother fought until the end, and never gave up. I remember her going to chemo treatments on Friday mornings, trying various healing methods, and even experimenting with then cutting-edge technology, but at the end of the day, nothing could save her. Not a day goes by that I don’t think of her, and how life would have been different had she been a part of my milestones. At this point, all I can do is share my experience with others, educate, and be a part of a movement that promotes change. Perhaps this is one of the most poignant posts I have written to date, as I am sharing some personal occurrences that are very difficult for me to open up about.

But despite it all, I chose to let you all know, as I’ve always wanted to see my blog as a forum for people to come together and learn, share, and empower one another.

Thank you to ShopStyle and the CFDA for paving the way to eliminate breast cancer, as I can’t wait to learn about the latest technological advancements and advocacy that will ultimately end this disease.
